I just received a new set of photos that were provided by the sister of Doc Richard Quinn. We are going to need some help with these to identify some of the people. If you recognize any of these (I may have some of the names wrong!) Please email me with the information so I can make the corrections!

Here's a list of the names that were included with the images. Let's see if we can match them up!

Mick
Chung
Kurt
SGT Rae
Clint
Lt. Tilton
Byrd
Tidwell
Louis
West
Loiles

A special thank you to Fern who is currently in the process of creating a memorial book for Doc Quinn's family!

More photos sent 4/4-5/2017. (top 6 images) These have some details in addition to names.

1/16/2018 UPDATES!!!!

Fern notified me that photo 12 below is Doc Tommy Hunt who joined the company in May of 1970.

5/4/2017 UPDATES!!!!

Thanks to Larry Sabinski for contacting me with some complete names, nicknames and platoon information (the roster has also been updated!) Larry was with D1/8 from June 19, 1969 to June 19th of 1970. Mostly with 2nd platoon 2nd squad. But he also was the company armor

I will do the updates in red so you can get an idea on how much information Larry has provided!

Photo processed July 1970

This is the last known photo of Doc Richard Quinn. Processed after he died.

Don Ketchem believes this was taken on or around July 11, 1970 during a "Log" day. This would have been the day before he was killed in action.

Gordon Swenson comment: notice the 1,000 yard stare. He has seen action and it has already begun to take it's toll.

Photo processed May 1970

On the back of the photo is written: "Big Jim + Sam, Steve Nichols with the M.15"

Photo processed May 1970.

On the back of the photo is written: "Quinn shaving hardcore Holmes showing his ignorance"

In this photo (processed in March of 1970) probably taken in February 22-27th 1970 we see Sgt Hill sitting and a kit carson scout Hung in the lower part of the photo. This would have been taken at Quan Loi during Green Line duty.

Sgt Hill was probably James T. Hill from the company roster. James T Hill left 2nd Platoon 2nd Squad around August or September 1969 to go to Sniper School.

Photo processed March 1970 (probably taken February 22-27th 1970) Again taken at Quan Loi. Kurt and a kit carson scout named Chung.

We have 2 Kurt's listed on the roster, Could have been either Curt Blosser, or Kurt Janus. My guess would be the latter due to the spelling of the name. We never listed Kit Carson scouts on the company rosters as they were 'attached' from other Vietnamese units.

This photo was processed in April of 1970 so assumption would be it was taken in March or early April.

Written on the back of the photo was: Toro, Nosse, Charlie Byrd, Bill Pease, Bebop.

This would have been Toro= Angel Torres, Nosse= William R. Nosse, Charlie Byrd, and Bill Pease. We need to get 'Bebops' name.

Photo processed in April of 1970.

Written on the back of the photo was: SP/4 Don Lewis, SP/4 Don West, SP/4 Angel Toro-Torres.

Photo processed in April of 1970.

Written on back of the photo was: S Sgt Rae (wounded April 25th - sucking chest wound).

(Note: in looking at the Daily officers logs the fire fight would have taked place on April 24th.) LINK (see line 33 and 80)

Based on this information, I would guess that Doc Quinn was working with 1st platoon.

Photo processed May 1970

Written on the back of the photo was: Tidwell + Chung in FSB Buttons (Note: this would be Doc Tidwell)

I have no listing for either on the company roster. My assumption would be these could have been the two other WIA's from April 24th but that is just a guess on my part. I also assume that "Chung" was a kit carson scout.

Photo processed July 1970

"SP/4 Quinn" "What a joyous day"

In background: PFC Allen (now wounded in Japan) Sgt Nosse + PFC Haven (Chief)

My guess is PFC Allen was probably one of the ones WIA on April 24th. SSgt Nosse= William R. Nosse, PGC Haven (Chief) = Theodore R. Haven.

Photo processed May 1970

Standing: Ski, Tex, Big Jim, William S Schultz "Wino" 2-2, Donnie Lewis "Gabby", Denis A. Schurman "Blue" 2-2

This photo consists of many grunts from 2nd Platoon, 2nd Squad my old squad. Lt. Tilton was our Platoon Lt.

(Ski = Stanley Krzyminski)

Sitting: Biernacki, Sam + Nichols

Note: 2-2 = 2nd platoon 2nd squad

Doc Tommy Hunt. Joined the company in May of 1970.

This appears the be the 1st platoon leader that everyone called Lt. "Lt Jim McRell aka "Moose"".

I received an email from Curt Blosser. He was assigned to Lt. Lt Jim McRell aka "Moose"s platoon and remembers his last name as "McReal" in checking the company roster, I have a McRell, James A. listed. So at this point that would be the 'best guess'.
